“Public Display of Affection” How much is really too much?

A Scene in Bus @ 11. PM

Mr & Mrs. X boarded the bus, occupied their reserved seats.

Mrs. X : Hey push the seat back and be comfortable, otherwise u may get back pain jaanu

Mr.X: Turn off the AC, already u have cold... it may get worst again

Mrs.X: Have a sip of water (forcibly she pours water in to his mouth  and wipes his lips with her dhupatta )

Mr.X grabs her hand and keeps her palm under his ears,

Mrs X smiles and gently pampers him, giving slight massages on his head with her finger tips.

Bus starts….

Both of them use one blanket to cover (though two were available...) started giggling and pampering each other… (May be they thought it’s their bedroom)

I understand public display of affection is common, but how much it should be? & what about people around them?

Well the point is how much is too much?

Many people think public display of affection is sweet and a form of caring, but I want to tell you again it’s fine as long as you won’t make people around you uncomfortable. If you are doing so, it means you are doing something wrong in public.

People nobody will say Awww!!! They are cool, that’s warm... They say "AHHHH Yuck"!!!

People so use ur brains and don’t have pleasure at cost of someone’s inconvenience 
P.S: this is my opinion/view ,i am not trying to compel anyone to hate it... i don't mind if u hate me for hating PDA

P.S: one more thing, i Hate people who use their flashy mobile phones in buses after lights are turned off... and I hate your weird ring tones and loud voices too

Girl with Price Tag


He walked into her room, she was standing in a corner, and he glanced at her. She looked like a nicely engraved sculpture; her skin was gold. She smiled at him with her ivory teeth.

He walked close to her and looked into her sparkling eyes. His provocative gaze created feeling of love that is real. Her presence made him forget the worldly fears. She drifted into his arms and her world seemed to be perfect and secure.

His hands flowed over her and they were lost in the mystical ride, burnt the flames of desire, love, & lust.

She looked at him so pure, so sad and felt he is one who holds her hand in all the times and will stand by her forever. He smiled at her and she looked as the most beautiful thing alive on earth.

He warmly whispered in her ears ” for 100 pieces of silver” will you sleep with me again?

A tear rolled, she wiped the tear escaping with the curve of lips, heard the gentle whisper from her heart, and realized she is the Girl with Price Tag; all her dreams were shattered, helpless to say it out.

She smiled and said "for 150 pieces".

Deep inside, she cried every second of  that night, she told herself" i know i cant have you, but still i  give my heart away.

In her world " its not meant to happen that way"

EVM3: Estimating and possibilities

 

Last evening, I was all lost in thoughts of proceeding my new project. This is not the first time I am handling a project, but there is a difference. Since I got my Project Management Certification, I always wanted to  handle a project which meets the international standards of project management. I thought of various procedures I have to choose from, since it’s the project manager and team that has to decide which suits a specific project.

I reached office early and started looking at the contract documents. It’s a cost plus contract.

We started our discussion with people talking about scope of the project.

From the Statement of work / BOQ, we created a WBS Dictionary (braking down high level definition of our project into actual pieces of work to be done to achieve that final result) and started doing bottom up estimation for each item / activity.

My team gave me ready answers with cost estimation for doing a WBS items. But I stopped them and asked “ so you think what ever is going to happen, the cost we arrived at is going to be same”

After a silence, every one looked with a slight smile on their faces which meant “no” to my question.

 

bullseyespreadarrowI said “so lets start working on realities. Lets consider risk factors, so in the worst case, what it is going to take, for each of the item that we attached cost”

Finance guy said “expenses are going to shoot up, may be a bit if not too much”

ME: “yes, so lets take it into consideration”

One of the team members quoted “ I think we are trying to be realistic, but we ended up being pessimistic”

 

I said, “no, we are not even close to the end” and I saw disappointment . I guess they wanted to finish this meeting soon.

I continued “so lets consider the best possibilities too, lets put the cost when circumstances are in our favor”

Now we have three columns 1. Worst case cost, 2. Usually what it costs 3.Best case cost.

One of the junior members in my team asked “ are we going to take the average of all three”

Well its not just his question, every one there is expecting to do the same.

ME; “yah that’s one way of doing it, but don’t you think that’s very crude way of doing it?”

He gave an “yes” gesture to my sentence.

I said, “lets do three point estimation, Lets go with formula”

Expected Cost = (Worst Case cost + 4 x Most likely Cost + Best case Cost ) / 6

My plant and Machinery head raised a point, “ I remember reading this formula and how to derive it from distributions etc etc, but that seemed too good to be useful in real life, how is it going give us that extra edge.. I would rather go with average, in our case that’s a three point estimate too”

Everyone started giving him affirmation.

I heard someone saying “ Lets take a break, its been 30 min of brain storming for bookish stats”

I should first convince my team why we should go with PERT than just average. Most Importantly I shouldn’t bore them with “bookish Statistics” as someone just mentioned.

I said “ ok lets catch a cup of coffee and come back in 10 min.”

EVM2 : The Story Begins.. Starting the Project


I was driving through my city’s traffic, hoping to reach my office on time, when my Black Berry screen flashed “ Bharani Calling “

My heart beat skipped for second. She is the most beautiful girl at our office. If she were not daughter cum assistant to my boss, in my strong matrix organization,  I would  have asked her out, and would have done everything I could, to make date me.
I answered call “ Hi Bharani, good morning” though I wanted to say “hi sweetheart”
Bharani: “ hi Srik, good morning.. where are you ? late to office??”
ME: “ almost there, anything important?”
Bharani: “ Boss is waiting for you.. don’t you remember.. you will have to start working on Aliens Space towers building project”
Trying to recollect anything other than those four pegs of Black Dog Whisky I had last night, I said “ oh yah, I do remember..”
Bharani: “ ok that’s great.. see you then”
She hung up the call. I always wonder if a time ever comes when she says “love you baby” at the end of every call.
I went straight to my cubicle not looking at my boss, Mr.Sunil or his young, pretty, beautiful, sexy, the most eligible lady and his daughter cum assistant Miss.Bharani.
Mr Sunil came to me casually walking
ME: “ hi sir, good morning”
Mr Sunil: with a half smile on his face as reply to my good morning, said “ We have a meeting at 11’o clock along with the client representative. Remember you are going to be the project manager for that project. its your baby. be realistic with schedules and cost”
ME: wishing he had told my baby is yours “sure sir, I will give my best”
We sat together at the meeting along the representative and prepared the project charter. I could only imagine the amount of work that I will have to do in the days to come. That thought by itself made me not to notice the beautiful face of Bharani, who just came to inform something to her Dad cum Boss.

project-managementI called up my HR Head in the noon and we ended up in formulating the project team, after a long discussion.

Its 5 in the evening now and I am lost in thoughts of creating schedules and thinking of my tomorrows work regarding budgets and laying path for Earned Value management for my project.

The best thing that could relax me is having a cup of hot coffee along with the daughter of my boss, though I only have one in my hands among those and you can easily guess what it is.

I had sent a formal mail to all the people who are now my “project team” saying that we have a Kick-Off-Meeting tomorrow at 10am and also that we will be formulating schedule and budget.
 

 

Now that I really have a meeting, I will have to stop blogging and go for it… :)

EVM1 : So you think you never knew ‘Earned Value Management’ and PM?

If you are someone who thinks your answer to the above question is “YES”, or somewhere in between Yes and No, I am here to make you confidently say “NO”


So Lets get started..


Every one of us are working on projects (not necessarily with the title ‘project manager’) and to that matter, I always am on my toes to argue that every thing we do in our lives and jobs is like a “Project”. Let it be building a home / software application, cooking a dish, dropping your kids to school, and even any production process can be viewed as a project when you split it.

So when you are working on a project, the obvious questions that you should ask are

1. What and how much of works should I be doing; when and how much should it cost me?

2.What is the value of work that is done and what is the actual money that I had spent on it?

3.Where is my project likely to end up, if I continue the way I am doing it now?

These questions should flick in any average humans mind, and if you are one of them, you are already doing Earned Value Management (EVM), but, may not be in the name of ‘EVM’

By now you should be clear that the term ‘ Earned Value Management’ is only a nice name given to what you are already doing. Its only on a different terminology.

Lets get started and see what’s earned value analysis and how to co-relate it to what you are actually doing.

Through-out this series I will be using “Building a building’ as my project, just to make it sound more realistic and professional, than using projects like “cooking pumpkin gravy” or “buying banana chips”

We will be talking a bit if not much about project management. though I am exposed to PM and EVM for considerable amount of time, Humans do mistakes. I will try not to be a human and avoid errors, but in case if you find any errors or feel there is a better way of presenting, I would love your comments.

IPod, a must have music gadget introduced me its creator “Steve Jobs,” a creative genius who made difference to the whole world technology. People are fan for his inventions or his values or the way he takes/lead his life. I was very much inspired by his outstanding speech 'How to live before you die' at Stanford University on 12 June, 2005.

Steve  born to an unwed mother, adopted by parents who didn’t even go to college, got fired from his own company, and fought with worst possible form of cancer, despite of all ups & downs in his life, he made remarkable place in the world of technology with his awesome inventions.

“Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life” - Steve Jobs

He never thought small or big, but just lived life with pride for all decisions he made. I bow for his passion in life.

Once Steve said “I would trade all of my technology for an afternoon with Socrates”, shows his simplicity as a human being 
 
Steve Jobs may not be with us in physical form, but his inventions and the values stay with us forever. He is a person who taught the world about the burning desire and the commitment to achieve it.

He will  remain in our  hearts and will be alive in form of his achievements.

Telangana for Dummies

Andhra Pradesh (AP) is the fifth largest State in the Indian Union having an area of 2,75,000 sq. km.sq. kms and a population of about 84,655,533. Andhra Pradesh consists of three distinct regions, namely, Andhra, Rayalaseema, and Telangana. Andhra and Rayalaseema were part of Madras province of the British Empire. For approximately 400 years, Telangana was part of Hyderabad State, an independent kingdom ruled by Muslim Qutub Shahi and Nizam dynasties.

In 1953, Andhra and Rayalaseema were separated from Madras State. Later Andhra merged with Telangana in 1956, based on their linguistic and national affinity, to form the present state of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad as the capital city. However, this has resulted in two major agitations: Jai Telangana in 1969 and Jai Andhra 1972, both for separate states.

Why Telangana Movement started?

Proponents of a separate Telangana state feel that the agreements, plans, and assurances from the legislature and Lok Sabha over the last fifty years have not been honoured, and as a consequence Telangana has remained neglected, exploited, and backward, perceived injustices in the distribution of water, budget allocations, and jobs.

They allege that the experiment to remain as one state has proven to be a futile exercise and that separation is the best solution

Chronology of Telangana Agitation

1969 Telangana Agitation

In the years after the formation of Andhra Pradesh state, people of Telangana expressed dissatisfaction over how the agreements and guarantees were implemented. All the Andhra employees who migrated to capital city in 1956 will become local in 1969 after 12years of residence per mulki rules. One section of students (which appeared dominant) want separate state other want implementation of safeguards.

1972 Jai Andhra Movement

Under the Mulki rules in force at the time, anyone who had lived in Hyderabad for 15 years was considered a local, and was thus eligible for certain government posts. When the Supreme Court upheld the Mulki rules at the end of 1972, the Jai Andhra movement, with the aim of re-forming a separate state of Andhra, was started in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.P. V. Narasimha Rao resigned as Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh on 10 January 1973, and President's rule was declared in the state.

Six-Point Formula of 1973

On 21 September 1973, a political settlement was reached with the Government of India with a Six-Point Formula. It was agreed upon by the leaders of the two regions to prevent any recurrence of such agitations in the future.

Movement in 1990–2004

In 1997, the state unit of the BJP passed a resolution seeking a separate Telangana. It could not create a separate Telangana state because of lack of consensus with the Telugu Desam Party, which extended outside support to its government at the centre.

A new party called Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), led by Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), was formed in 2001 with the single-point agenda of creating a separate Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital

2004 to 2009

For the 2004 Assembly and Parliament elections, the Congress party and the TRS had an electoral alliance in the Telangana region that promised a separate Telangana State. Congress came to power in the state and formed a coalition government at the centre; TRS joined the coalition and was successful in making a separate Telangana state a part of the common minimum programme of the coalition government. In April 2006 the then Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy categorically said that the state would remain united. In September 2006 TRS withdrew support from the coalition government because of their failure to deliver on their promise to create an independent Telangana state

In June 2008, Tulla Devender Goud, a politbureau member and Deputy Leader of the Telugu Desam Party, resigned from the party, saying he would devote his time and energy to the formation of a separate Teelangana state. In July 2008, Goud and other leaders such as E. Peddi Reddy formed a new party called Nava Telangana Praja Party (NTPP)

On 9 October 2008 the TDP announced its support for the creation of Telangana.

Konda Laxman Bapuji of the Nava Telangana Party announced that "We solemnly declare statehood for Telangana on November 2, 2008."

In the year 2009

In February 2009 the state government declared that it had no objection, in principle, to the formation of separate Telangana and that the time had come to move forward decisively on this issue. To resolve related issues, the government constituted a joint house committee.

In the lead-up to the 2009 General Elections in India, all the major parties in Andhra Pradesh supported the formation of Telangana. The Telugu Desam Party promised to work for Telangana statehood. Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) joined a Mahakutami ("grand alliance") with the TDP and other parties to defeat the Congress party for denying statehood

The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), founded in August 2008 by film star Chiranjeevi, pledged support to Telangana statehood if it becomes inevitableThe Nava Telangana Praja Party announced that it would merge with PRP after it concluded that there was not enough political space for two sub-regional Telangana parties that had Telananga statehood as their main agenda, Devender Goud later quit PRP and returned to the Telugu Desam Party.

In the 2009 elections, Congress returned to power both at the center and state.

On 29 November 2009 TRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) started a fast-unto-death, demanding that the Congress party introduce a Telangana bill in Parliament. The apparent decline in KCR's health led to a sense of urgency to the issue

On 12 February, the central government announced Terms of Reference to the Srikrishna Committee, with a deadline of 31 December 2010. The SKC compiled information which indicates that between 30 November 2009 and 27 February 2010, 313 Telangana people committed suicide over the delay in the formation of Telangana state

In a report submitted to the Srikrishna Committee, ministers from Seema-Andhra region stated that the demand for separate Telangana under grounds of self-respect and self-rule is anti-national and will sow seeds for disintegration of the country. They said that all the districts of Telangana were well-developed between 1992 and the present. This statement evoked strong protests in Telangana and demands for the dismissal of those ministers. In a report dated 9 August, the central government declared 13 districts in AP are backward, and 9 out of 10 Telangana districts are backward

On 16 December 2010, two weeks before the deadline for the submission of the Srikrishna report, TRS organized a public meeting in Warangal. It was estimated that 1.2 to 1.5 million people attended this meeting.

The Srikrishna committee on Telangana submitted its report in two volumes to the Home Ministry of India on 30 December 2010. The home Ministry announced that it would hold talks with all eight recognized political parties of Andhra Pradesh on 6 January 2011 and make the report public on the same day.

Telangana Non-cooperation movement and Million march of Feb-March 2011

On February 17, 2011 noncooperation movement was started and it last for 16days which was participated by 300,000 government employees and caused Rs 8 billion per day in revenue to government

In February and March, Assembly session was boycotted for weeks and Parliament session was disrupted for several days by Telangana representatives.

Miilion March was organized by Telangana JAC in Hyderabad on March 10, 2010.

In a unique form of protest, people from all walks of life came together on Hyderabad's roads on June 19 on a call given by Telangana JAC for 'vanta vaarpu' or a cook-and-eat agitation to demand a separate Telangana state. While various groups made arrangements on a massive scale for cooking food on roads, families set up small kitchens with gas stoves.

Resignations of almost all Telangana representatives

On July 4, 2011 as many as 81 of 119 Telangana MLAs in the state, 12 out of 15 Telangana ministers in state.

On July 5, MLAs from TRS(11), BJP(2), CPI(4), Congress(2) resigned took the total of Telangna MLAs resigned to 100 out of 118(1 vacant). As part of the 2 day bandh declared by the JAC in Telangana region, agitators stopped IT professionals from attending work in some instances.

On July 11, 200 Telangana students started indefinite hunger strike protesting the delay in Telangana state formation. On July 13 and 14, resigned Telangana Congress representatives(MPs, MLAs, MLCs) were on hunger strike due to their party's central leadership's silence on Telangana issue even after their resignations

All People's strike

ON September 12, 2011, a day before Sakala Janula Samme(All people's strike), TRS organized a public meeting in Karimnagar which was attended by Telangana JAC leaders, BJP and New Democracy party leaders. Over million people attended the meeting.

On September 19, state road transport corporation employees and state electricity board employees in Telangana joined the indefinite strike.

Virtually all sections of people joined this strike. On September 30, as the strike enter 18th day, even while Congress central leadership meeting several Telangana congress leaders, JAC called a bundh in Hyderabad city

Don’t expect your boyfriend to do this for you :)

Google software engineer Ari Gilder recently decided to propose his girlfriend, Faigy. But he wanted to do it in a more meaningful and also add the essence of surprise.

So he decided to put his software engineering skills to work and ended up doing one of the most talked about marriage proposals on net.

He created a romantic scavenger hunt. Winking smile

On the road to “The Big Question,” he wanted his girl to visit places around New York City that were filled with memories of their relationship.

He constructed a road map using Google Maps. His Girlfriend Faiy, equipped with Nexus One started navigating relying on her Google Maps.

When Faigy checked in to a location, a custom app built by her Boyfriend Gilder and fellow Google engineers asked Faigy to input a password based on questions (related to their sweet memories) the stationed friends asked.

Once she inputs the correct answer, the maps would unlock the next location on her route map along with a bunch of roses the friend waiting there would give her.

When she got to the checkered pin that marked her last destination, her seventh and final rose also came with a question — but this one was from her boyfriend, and it wasn’t any ordinary question “will you marry me?”

Why "No Traffic Rules" to Politicians/VIPs?

Many times I felt weird about this issue; I feel it should be a serious concern for us.

Why do they block the traffic whenever a VIP or Politician passes through??”

I understand Security is important for them. But is it at the cost of common man convenience & time? Everyone are busy, every ones time is precious in their own way?

Why do they have to barricade the roads? Do they assume people are to be restrained?

My only question is “Why a politician or VIP should be kept away from the traffic?"

Have you ever seen a traffic cop making way for an Ambulance? NO... At least me, has never seen? So what is the priority here? Do you think is this right system?

Dear Cops,

Allow our so called leaders/VIPS etc to experience the traffic and the real world rather speaking nonsense sitting in AC rooms and traveling in AC cars.

They are also the part of Indian society, laws, rules and regulations apply to them and they should be imposed on them.Allow them to follow the traffic rules... 
In fact each and every law that is applicable to the common man.

Dear Citizens,

Let’s not be the mere spectators, just cursing them (in fact like me who is venting anger through a blog). I feel we should protest and raise voice against these situations.

After all, we gave them power, not to destroy us but to take care of us. This in fact is not happening.

PM's statement on Anna Hazare's arrest:What our PM says!!!


The Prime Minister conceded to the demands of a united Opposition and made a statement this morning in parliament on Anna Hazare's arrest. "It is my painful duty to report on the events of yesterday," Dr Manmohan Singh said. He stressed that the Delhi Police "had no choice" but to arrest Mr Hazare and that while his government "acknowledges the right of citizens to hold peaceful protests," conditions that guarantee law and order will not be disturbed need to be met.


"Our government does not seek any confrontation with any section of the society. But when some sections of society deliberately challenge the authority of the Government and the prerogative of Parliament, it is the bounden duty of the Government to maintain peace and tranquility," said the PM.

The Opposition protested loudly, indicating that the government's Anna crisis is escalating. Mr Hazare himself has refused to leave Tihar Jail, where he was moved last evening.  

The 74-year-old Gandhian was arrested in Delhi yesterday in the morning for stating that he would defy prohibitory orders by trying to hold a protest at JP Park in Delhi. He was taken to Tihar Jail around 4 pm, after he refused to give an undertaking that he would not hold his planned protest. After much public criticism in the form of demonstrations and candlelight vigils in support of Mr Hazare, the Delhi Police decided last night to release Mr Hazare.

However, he has refused, stating that he will not leave Tihar till he is promised in writing that the government will not force any conditions upon him for his hunger strike and demonstration against corruption.

"Those who believe that their voice and their voice alone represents the will of 1.2 billion people should reflect deeply on that position. They must allow the elected representatives of the people in Parliament to do the job that they were elected for," Dr Singh said.  

Hundreds of supporters are waiting outside Tihar Jail for Mr Hazare.  The Left, BJP and other opposition parties like Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP) warned yesterday that they would not allow parliament to function till the PM explained the government's action against Mr Hazare. The BJP stressed that while the party may not agree with Mr Hazare's charter of demands, his arrest amounts to "a murder of democracy."

The PM in the Lok Sabha explained in detail the chain of events that preceded Mr Hazare's arrest including negotiations between the Delhi Police and Mr Hazare's team for the protest they were planning in Delhi.  The PM reiterated what the government said in its defense all day yesterday as public protests swelled in the streets -"Mr Hazare and his supporters would have been allowed to hold their protests if they had accepted the conditions."  The police wanted Mr Hazare to limit his hunger strike to three days and his supporters to 5,000.  

"The question is who drafts the law and who makes the law," said the PM.  "The path chosen by Shree Hazare to impose his draft upon Parliament is misconceived," he added.  The Opposition has said it does not accept the government's stand that Mr Hazare's attempt to challenge the Lokpal Bill is an undermining of Parliamentary democracy.

In Parliament, the government has chosen to introduce its version, angering Mr Hazare, who wanted his draft to also be considered.

Laws under which Anna Hazare was detained

Delhi Police used two sections - 107 and 151 - of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to detain social activist Anna Hazare. These are:

Section 107 of the Criminal Procedure Code: Apprehension of breech of peace and tranquility of an area.

1) When an Executive Magistrate receives information that any person is likely to commit a breach of the peace or disturb the public tranquility or to do any wrongful act that may probably occasion a breach of' the peace or disturb the public tranquility and is of opinion that there is sufficient ground for proceeding, he may in the manner hereinafter provided, require such person to show cause why he should not be ordered to execute a bond 1[with or without sureties] for keeping the peace for such period, not exceeding one year, as the Magistrate thinks fit.

(2) Proceeding under this section may be taken before any Executive Magistrate when either the place where the breach of the peace or disturbance is apprehended is within his local jurisdiction or there is within such jurisdiction a person who is likely to commit a breach of the peace or disturb the public tranquility or to do any wrongful act as aforesaid beyond such jurisdiction.

Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code: Arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences.

(1) A police officer knowing of a design to commit any cognizable offence may arrest, without orders from a magistrate and without a warrant, the person so designing, if it appears to such officer that the commission of the offence cannot be otherwise prevented.

(2) No person arrested under sub-section (1) shall be detained in custody for a period exceeding twenty-four hours from the time of his arrest unless his further detention is required or authorized under any other provisions of this Code or of any other law for the time being in force.

Telangana, Please don’t take it before its given

I reached signal at one of the Hyderabad's most busy areas, like I do every other day. I had to stop for the Green lamp to glow and was hoping for it to happen soon, like every other hyderabadi on road. Was looking around observing all cars ( habit which my friend Vishwas developed in me). I was shocked, and surprised to see one, which though looks pretty simple yet unusual and raised so many questions in my mind even after the Green lamp on the traffic signal was lit.

Well, I know its hard to figure out form this pic. Couldn’t do better, managing my bike in hyderabad traffic. The number plate reads “ TG 29 xxxx”

I just wondered for a while if there is any state “TG” and looked at the side  sticker that reads “AP 29 xxxx”. I observed the number plate again and realized that the letters “TG” were pasted upon the original letters “AP”

Is this not shocking? what do police  on roads do? is this not against the law ( to have a vehicle registered on the name of the state  which doesn’t even exist as of now? ). Is this not a bigger violation of law, than not having a pollution certificate or not having a number plate without white or yellow background, which our traffic police usually bother so much about.

Lets keep our law makers and safe guarders aside for a while. How about, talking about someone who is more important, that is “us”.

Don’t that owner of the car or to that matter, all of us have better jobs to do than supporting or fighting for a cause which is only going to benefit politicians, their sons and grand sons?

Well, I am not asking every one to come out of their homes / offices to fight, if you are busy with your life, so be it.. on the other hand if you think you have time and love working for social causes, we have better issues like working on improving our traffic conditions on roads which are congested.

or providing food for people on roads and kids who find it hard to have a meal a day

or working on improving the slums, where people find it hard to figure out road out of garbage spread across, let alone the condition of potable water or fresh air

How about the business we lost, industries that were supposed to start up, but were canceled and alined small scale industries and jobs that would have been created. Every thing gone and many dreams shattered just because a politician and bunch of his followers wanted to rip a piece out of a state, to make their own lockers over flow with cash, which needs killing and starving many innocent people, whom I am not and no one are capable of capturing in their cameras.

Note: I neither am a supporter of Samakhya Andhra nor am I opposing the formation of Telangana. All that I wanted to convey is “ lets work for causes that lead to the a better society, a peaceful place or  educated community. If you think you are busy to do, lets mind our jobs and leave bull shit to politicians”.

 

Hoping not to read another news paper or come across any news that says “another student or another innocent kills him / herself for Telangana”

May I have a Minute ?

It was 1.00 AM , old Sarada was still awake, looking at the door eagerly. Suddenly, a taxi arrives. Elated Sarada runs towards the gate, paused for a moment, her eyes were filled with tears to see her son after 10 years.

She hugs her son and invites them into the house. Sarada is a widow, who is a retired teacher. She struggled a lot to bring up her son, gave him good education. He is a Green card holder settled in USA and came to India to see his mother after 10 years.

In the morning, Sarada takes her family to the temple. She proudly introduces her son to the priest and the known people in the temple. Everyone start praising her son, and reveals that he has given a high donation to the old age home which the Government has never taken care of . Sarada heart filled with contentment and was happy to see her son is helping the needy.

After Lunch, they start sharing the things. In the middle of conversation her son says:

“Mother, If you come and stay with us in America, as you know that me and my wife are busy with our work and we could not be able to give proper attention towards you. So, we both have discussed and finalized that we will join you in a old age home.So that you can have comfortable life and that is the reason I have donated a high amount to the old age home.”

After hearing the reason, Sarada heart breaks and her eyes just start flooding with tears…

With no words left to speak, Sarada ask her son to leave the house

NOTE TO ALL

You & me, everyone attains old age, so don’t think that your parents are burden for you. They cared for you ever since you entered this world. They have shown always selfless love on you and you don’t be selfish now. They have sacrificed many things in their life to see you as what you are today in this society.

Remember Your happiness lies in friends, parties, pubs, shopping etc but you are the only happiness to your parents

Be humble to them, take care of them, and don’t leave them when they need you most. All they need is your love and affection

Take a pledge today that “You will serve your old parents in the BEST way you can and will never hurt them in any way, no matter how tough it may be.”

A nice way to Manage all your Mails and Social Networks

Which Laptop doesn’t come with a decent webcam these days?

I am sure 99% of us would say “none”. so to help you make your online shopping and payments easy, and to make the best use of functionality of your webcam, US based  payment startup Jumio had come up with a new technology that enables you to use your webcam as a credit card reader.

1The patented technology called as ‘NetSwipe’ uses secure video streaming to recognize and verify credit card information. Hold a credit card up to the camera, wait for it to initialize and then enter the 3-digit CVN number. that’s it! you are done with your shopping and secure payment.

With the failure of the keyboards that are fitted with credit card reader, we will have to just wait for a while to see how much this new technology will get into the day to day life.

Fair chances that it will succeed as it doesn’t require users to buy any new hardware and the entire process is totally secure. ( I don’t think I will need to explain about the key loggers and cookie tracking tools that are being used to capture users  information, when they key-in the information like credit card numbers etc. )

Lessons Learned - PMI Certification with love

Inception: Came across PMI when I was in my PGDM. Always loved the concepts and in depth scrutinizing PMI does about project management.
 
Business Case: Market Demand for the Certified People, Need to enhance my knowledge
 
Scope Baseline: Get the Project management Certification which is renewed around the world and across the industries.
 
Project Charter: My application got accepted on July 23rd 2010 after going through PMI’s Audit Process
 
Schedule Baseline: Three Months (this got changed due to various approved change requests like Job Change, personal reasons, once I messed up my exam appointment on my Birthday, Settling in new job, got busy with other stuff in life, etc.)
 
Schedule Updates after Approved Changes :) :- My final preparation was for exactly 7 days, started on 15th July and exam was on 22nd July. I don’t mean to mislead people by saying that 7 days prep is enough to pass the exam, all that I intend is to “motivate”, “capm is not an impossible thing to crack”.
Due to my Job Constraints and as there was a Business partner visit from Canada, I couldn’t afford to take leave for more than 2 days (exam day and the day before), So I had to allow buffers in those 7 days, to accommodate my preparation hours and job activities
I made a excel sheet schedule for every hour in those 7 days, regarding what should I do so that I cover whole PMBOK.
 
Cost baseline: Only Exam fee, no other training programs which is going to cost me :)
 
Known Negative Risks: I am very bad at sitting with books and studying loads of pages, waking up in early hours to study.
 
Unknown negative Risks: Appointments with girlfriends and others which just come out of blues
 
Risk Management Plan: Use Multiple Alarm Application on my Blackberry and keep alarms for every 15 min starting from 4.30 to 5.30 so that I can at-least wake up by 6 every morning for those 7 days and study till 8.30. Don’t spend much time with friends and girlfriends in the evening :)
 
Positive Risks: Exploit my knowledge on PM as I work day in and day out in the line of project management (had come across considerable no. of concepts in PMBOK, before I touched PMBOK, with job experience and by reading articles on Project Management on net, had attended a Seminar by Mr.To, EVMS professional, as a part of ERP Implementation in my company)
 
Quality management Plan: make sure that I go through all the processes described in PMBOK
 
Risk Response: Risk Sharing ( I mean to say I took help of my Babhi, who had spent Considerable time and had wrote a nice 10 page material on all processes, And my girlfriend who helped in at the last moments by preparing good notes on two of the KA’s)
 
Tools and Techniques: Study and write down own notes. ITTOS are heart and soul. Try to answer more situational questions and do “How-Why” for every answer. Do problems on EVMS.
 
Execution: Finally Schedule my date 22nd July, one day before my eligibility period expires and gave exam.
 
Work Performance Information: Exam wasn’t too tough to handle.
 
Work Performance Measurements: I finally passed.
  
Validate Deliverables: Got Certified :)

My Bosses at job, who gave me an opportunity to be a lead for functional aspects of ERP Implementation, which aligned my job with my preparation
Mr. Tom, EVMS professional, who gave a one hour Webex seminar on EVMS, which sort of acted like a review for Cost management Concepts. This saved me time of reviewing cost management chapter from PMBOK.
My Girlfriend, for making a cut short notes for last minute review , about quality and HR management KA’s
My roommate and old friend Vinay for pushing me to study,who constantly used to
remind the value of fee that I had paid
 
Observations:-
There are Humans and there are Project Managers according to PMBOK . No offence. I mean to say when writing exam, you should be really serious about Org. process assets, Policies, Ethics, behavior, decision making. Choose what you should do according to PMBOK processes, rules and regulations. Don’t act like a human being with kind heart
PMBOK and its terminology is so pretty much important for giving exam, than your practical knowledge and terminology and situation handling in Project Management

While giving exam, you should be very serious about project management, take it serious than anything else in your life

Google Plus, a flop in making ?

 

With Google claiming to release “the best ever” social networking site, a few weeks ago, all of us were waiting for and few of us were actually wanting to buy Google plus invitations.

But today, after actually joining Google Plus and having a look at it, I felt “its just another flop in Google’s flop bucket”, others include Google Wave, Google Search Wiki, Google Audio ads, Google Video, Dodgeball, Jaiku, Google Notebook, Google Catalogs, Google Print ads, Google Page creator, Google Answers,  Orkut, Google Buzz, Google Knol.

So what could be next?

The moment I logged in to Google+, I actually felt the same “half loaded orkut page”

Interface is not so pleasing and catchy

Google was beating its chest like gorilla, claiming that it has a unique feature called circles which is going to be their success platform. But is it not there on Facebook? yes it does and we already are using it.

when sharing a photo album or status message, we can choose whom should we share it with, and it gives you list of friends groups that you have created or categorized. Google circles is no different from this.

and the idea of sharing your Picasa album on your social networking site, for me it seemed like (beepp) (beepp) (beep), it was a (s)censor cut ;) in Google style

People might join Google Plus, just to update them selves with what’s happening lately, but wont be using it as much as they use Facebook.

A window should pop up asking you “ Whom do you want to call '? “

Select one of your Facebook friends, who are online at the moment, Click on “ok” when it asks you for confirmation.

Google adds 'People Widget' to Gmail

"The people widget surfaces content from friends, family and colleagues that is already available to you but may be hard to find and makes it easier to connect with them," explains Google

From the right-hand column, users will have quick access to a contact's latest emails conversations, shared documents, relevant Buzz posts, and Calendar events.

And if you are annoyed with this new Widget, disabling is easy.. just Go to settings and select  "Hide people widget" then click on Save.
