Got an Android? you must know these things..

1. Install Lost Phone

lost phone Install this application the moment you buy (literally) your droid. This app tells you where your droid is ( with the GPS location).

With an sms code, you can do many things, which might just save you, your droid. And yes, it also sends an alert to chosen numbers, when the SIM-card in your phone has been changed.

2. Install Juice Defender

juice The best application to improve battery life of your droid. This app is one among the first things to do once you buy your droid phone.

I personally was pissed off about my android phones battery capacity and was about to change it, but this once I found this, I started loving my droid.

You can buy it from Android Market Place for Rs.320 (costs you Rs.500 with Juice defender plus) or download the cracked version (please prevent piracy of software’s) from here

3. Install Google Docs

gdocs If you are a person who fiddles around with documents, online and offline, this is another must have application. The name says it all.

4. Use Google Calendar

gcalendar Your Droid automatically syncs with your Google Account ( I am sure you are aware of this ), and so with your Google Calendar. Start using your Google Calendar and see the difference.

The other day, I had just created an event in my Google Calendar on PC, regarding a client whom I had to call after a week and I totally forgot about it. I didn’t miss to do it only coz my Android device gave an alert about this. And the best thing is that you can edit the event on your phone and it updates your Google calendar without you having to do it on your pc again.

Be a Geek manager

5. Replace your Home Screen with ADW Launcher

adw launcher Feel like speeding up your Droid? This is one thing you should do. Personally this is the best home screen replacement app.

You can get it for 150 bucks from android market or download the cracked version from here

6. Install IP Messenger

ip Tell me which work place doesn’t your this local area network based instant messenger with file transfer feature? So how about being a geek at your work place. Install this and connect your mobile to your office wifi, and you are there on office network. Transfer files, ping that special colleague of yours from your mobile ;)

7. Lock your mobile with a Pattern

Every droid phone has this feature. Lock your mobile with a pattern, easier and secured way to lock your mobile. Helps you to unlock your mobile by connecting the dots in a pattern which you have already preset. So go to your phone settings and do it now

8. Use less number of home screens and widgets

This helps you to save battery. Avoid unnecessary stuff running on your mobile.

9. Install File Expert (file explorer/manager)

file expert This has become my personal choice, after trying all other file management applications from the market. It is free, got all the useful features including FTP support and the best thing is “ Its free with but with NO ad’s ). A clean and nice app. Thanks to the developers, for developing such a sweet app to browse through my droid phone folders and do more

10. Install Pansi Messaging

sms This is all that you need to manage SMS and MMS on your mobile. And yah are you bored of the threaded view of messages? Love those nokia message applications which give you different folders like inbox, out box and sent items, need an app to send messages on a predefined schedule?, need an app to take backup of your messages? The one app that gives a solution to all the above question and more is Pansi messaging. You can download it for free from Android Market.

Hm.. I have got many other tips, but my colleagues started staring at my computer screen.. So let me stop it here for today. Will get back to you with stuff, which enables you to make the most out of your droid.

Few other apps you might want to use are PrintShare, Clear Home, fake call, ABBY Business Card Reader and PicSay.

Need some app or think you got something to suggest ? leave a comment :)

How to make Excel show numbers in Indian Format

This could be an interesting piece of information if you are someone who uses excel for financial analysis or if you play with big numbers in excel sheet.

By default, Excel groups a number in English style, ie., Twelve Lakhs will be shown as 1,200,000 , where in we Indians are more used to depict it as 12,00,000.

So how to make excel format numbers in Indian Style by default.

Go to control Panel and Select Regional and Language Options and then go to Additional Settings ( If you are a Windows 7 user) or go to Regional and Language Options and Select Customize ( if you are Windows XP User ) and change the number grouping formats.

Control Panel –> Regional and Language Options –> Customize

See the Screen Shots below for easy understanding

This is obviously not a big trick, but it will surely make the person who looks at your excel sheet, feel more comfortable

In the same Customize Regional Options window,  you can also set the default Currency Symbol, for instance say I want “Rs.” as a default, I would type Rs in the Currency Symbol Box.

Happy Spread Sheeting ;)
